Student Release Policies

To ensure the safety and accountability of all student riders, Lowell School District has established the following release procedures for students using district transportation services:

Kindergarten & 1st Grade Riders

  • Students in Kindergarten and 1st Grade must have an approved adult or sibling present at their designated stop in order to be released from the bus.

  • If no approved individual is present, the student will remain on the bus and transportation staff will follow district protocol to ensure the child’s safe return or alternate arrangements.

2nd–12th Grade Riders

  • Students in grades 2 through 12 do not require an adult present at their assigned stop, unless their stop is at one of our group stop locations, and will be released as scheduled unless otherwise directed by a parent or guardian.

Group Stop Release Policy

  • At any of the district’s three designated group stops, students will not be released unless the following conditions are met:

    • A pre-approved parent or responsible party is physically present at the stop.

    • All authorized individuals must be listed and updated in advance through the school office.

  • If no approved adult is present:

    • The student will remain on the bus.

    • Transportation staff will follow district protocol to ensure safe return or alternate arrangements.

Alternate Stop Requests

  • Students will not be released at any stop other than their assigned one without written permission.

  • Parents/guardians must contact the school secretary to request a change.

  • Drivers must receive an official school note confirming the change before releasing the student at an alternate location.

Emergency Protocol

  • In the event that no approved adult is present and contact attempts are unsuccessful:

    • The student will be returned to the Elementary Office or Transportation Office.

    • Emergency contacts will be notified to pick up the child.

    • If emergency contacts cannot be reached, the district may contact local authorities to ensure the child’s safety.

Bus Stop Timing

  • Bus stop times are approximate.

  • Students should arrive at their stop at least 5 minutes before the scheduled pickup time.

 Alternate Stop Release

  • Regular riders will not be released at any stop other than their assigned one without written permission:

    • Parent/Guardian must notify the school secretary

    • Driver must receive an approved school note

Inclement Weather Procedures

Lowell School District typically does not operate snow routes. In the event of inclement weather, the most common adjustment will be a 2-hour delay to the regular schedule.

  • If a 2-hour delay is announced, simply add 2 hours to your student’s normal morning pickup time.

  • Afternoon drop-off times will remain the same unless otherwise communicated.

  • All schedule changes due to weather will be announced via district communication channels, including ParentVUE, email, and local media.
