LHS Students Attend “Hands on Career Day” at Lane Community College

On April 22nd, many of our LHS students attended “Hands on Career Day” at Lane Community College. The event was an opportunity to learn more about Career Technical programs offered at the school. As the title suggest, students were able to ask questions, meet faculty, and gain “hands on” experience in various departments of their choosing.

Oregon Duck Visits Lundy Students

On Friday, April 29th SMART (Start Making a Reader Today) and the University of Oregon Athletic Program came to Lundy Elementary School to share the excitement and importance of reading with our students. The Duck acted out the book Giggle, Giggle, Quack written by Doreen Cronin. This fun event was part of a reading-themed assembly designed to encourage kids to embrace reading throughout the summer. The kids really enjoyed seeing the Duck and meeting the athletes that shared their autographs. In the fall Lundy Elementary and the Lowell community are excited to partner with SMART to bring the  program to our school in an effort to create strong, confident and enthusiastic readers. For more information on SMART or to volunteer contact Kari Rosenfeld at krosenfeld@getSMARToregon.org or call 541-726-3302.

Junior High Tours Portland Colleges

Yesterday, March 30th the junior high classes traveled to Portland to visit colleges. In order to expose students to differing college experiences, we visited Warner Pacific, a small, private, Christian school, and Portland State, a large, public university. Highlights of the day included a presentation and tour of Warner Pacific as well as eating in the residential dinning hall of Portland State. It was a beautiful, sunny day to be in Portland and for our students to start thinking ahead to all of the future options and possibilities that are available for college!
